Wandering In England & France Part 22 (Portsmouth to Huisnes-sur-Mer)

We arrived back in Portsmouth by bus from Weymouth and met our new hosts, Matt and Louise at 90 Beresford Rd, a very nice couple who welcomed us into their 100 plus year-old Victorian style house, making us feel right at home after a long day travelling by bus. They suggested we try the Blue Cobra for supper, an Indian-Bangladeshi up scale restaurant only 5 minutes away, The food was hot, delicious and plentiful and we recommend it to anyone who likes spicy. It's on the high street, across from Pound World. We retired fairly early in order to be up to catch the ferry to Cherbourg in the morning. As it was Sunday and the sun was warm it was a pleasant walk to the Brittany Terminals and we boarded right away. The Normandie Express was a fast catamaran that took only three hours to cross but the seas were high and the voyage rough. It rained most of the way across the Channel but the sun poked through when we arrived in Cherbourg, barely 30 minutes ahead of our next connection. After going quickly through customs we almost ran the last few yards to purchase our tickets at the Gare, boarding with mere minutes to spare before the train left the station. Our next connection was at Lison where we waited for the train going south to Rennes, getting off in the small village of Pontorson forty minutes late. But our very obliging and friendly but rather harried looking host, Jean Pierre, arrived shortly to pick us up and take us to his 300 year old farmhouse in Huisnes-sur-Mer, our stop for the next two days. We had a light supper and met the other guests staying there before retiring. Tomorrow we would be visiting the world heritage site: the Benedictine Abbey dedicated to Saint Michael, the breathtaking Mont-Saint-Michel.    gws
