Wandering In England & France Part 3 (Calais to Metz)

Marie and I left our B&B early the next morning and walked across town to the Canterbury Bus Station and boarded a 7 o'clock bus to Dover. It was only a half hour drive but a long walk along the waterfront to the P&O ferry lines where we went through the usual security that is now part of life, and had a pleasant crossing to Calais on the Spirit of France . Then another walk through an almost deserted Calais to the town Gare where we had time for our first French meal before barely catching the SNCF train to Paris, where we changed trains for Metz, arriving punctually as promised on our "billet" at 6pm.. Then another 15 minute walk to our next B&B across from the German Gate (Porte des Allemande) at 20 Boulevard Andre Maginot, where we met up with the landlord, a young man who enthused profusely about his love for Canada. We went out grocery shopping once we were settled and had a light supper in our studio apartment, unpacked and planned our next day. We were up early again to pick up a rental car at the Gare, driving an hour east to explore the battlefields of Verdun.   gws
