Our Retirement Home Part Thirteen ( Pump, Interior Walls & Frame for Solar Panels)

As quick as a hummingbird's wings beat the past two weeks zipped by, one of the warmest and driest Augusts ever in the area. Marie and I accomplished a lot in that time and finally stopped Saturday to catch our breaths, returning to Montreal for the Labor Day weekend. During the two week period we had the pump for the well installed (260 feet deep), constructed the large heavy array for the solar panels (4x4 and 2x6 treated lumber), installed insulation around the cement walls in the basement (2 inches of rigid foam) , built the rest of the interior walls on all three floors (2x4 and 2x6), had the three basement windows installed, built the stairs going from the basement to the first floor (2 pieces of 12 foot 2x12s) and finished the septic system (had the tank completely covered with earth to protect it from freezing). Next week our contractor will be arriving to install the solar system! It was a lot of work in a short time but we were both proud of what we accomplished and looking forward to doing even more in the coming weeks. Tuesday brother Richard is taking the train up from Georgetown to Montreal and returning to the cabin with us for four days, and the following week sister Lyn and Dad are driving up from Florida for a week. Hopefully the weather cooperates and we can all enjoy the fall colours that are just beginning to appear on the mountain. Next post will detail our solar installation!  gws
