Wandering In England & France Part 6 (Metz 2 of 2)

The next morning, our first overcast and cold day since we had arrived in Europe, a dozen of us got together for a walking tour of the city. Our guide, a knowledgeable lady from the Bureau de Tourisme, was keen and very pleasant and helped us all better understand the fantastic history and past glories of this very old city. We spent some tine in the Cathedral St-Etienne learning of the stories behind the beautiful stain glass windows, one overlooking the nave being the largest in the world. We stopped for a few hours for lunch before continuing on past the Temple Neuf, one of my favourite vantage points for picture taking, the Porte Serpenoise, the Centre Pompidou-Metz and an old 4th century church partially constructed around the Roman walls, Eglise Saint-Pierre-aux- Nonnains.

We decided to pick up our supper that evening and eat in our small studio apartment, stopping at the Marché Couvert - meat torte, cheese and delicious French pastrys. It was nice to see Metz again though it will probably be the last time I visit - I am leaving though with more good memories.  We had to catch the bus early the next morning for Paris, our next destination, so after packing and preparing for our next leg of the journey it was early to bed!    gws
