In July I began dusting off the pile of boxes of wood flooring and began laying them in the living room. It was necessary to wait until the fireplace stone had been installed as I didn't want to erect the scaffolding on top of a floating floor while I was putting up the stone. The flooring had resided in the corner of the living room for over three years and we had used it for a table among other things over the years. Spiders had found it a convenient home as well so it was a relief to us both to finally start covering the ugly gray concrete that had greeted us every morning since 2012. Cutting was done on the deck to reduce the sawdust and I was able to finish the majority of the floor before we went away on our trip to Nova Scotia. The floor, Jasper Harbors Texas Brown, is identical to the one in the master bedroom, purchased from Build Direct in the USA. As we have enough left over to do half the bedroom in the basement we only have to order another four boxes to complete that job. I will be installing the nosing around the stairs going down to the basement and finishing with the T moldings to separate the kitchen tiles from the the flooring. Next step will be cutting and nailing on the baseboards. Finally I will be putting up the railing between the stairway to the mezzanine and the small wall. Time now to look for a dining room table!
